Zip Canvas Jacket
Cowboy Tested, Cowboy Approved. Built as part of the XIT Collection, the Zip Canvas Jacket in Dalhart was field tested for over a year on the XIT Ranch and pays homage to an agricultural hub of the Panhandle just to the north.

Love this useful jacket, been looking for years to replace one I buried with my favorite old horse. I'm 5 ft. 3, 115 lbs. with brawny shoulders and the Small fits great -- just had to fold the cuffs back. Hefty without being heavy, it sheds hair and hay, is dirt colored and a great chore coat that got me some compliments in town, too. Haven't washed it yet.
A few things I'd suggest: the right chest pocket design catches hay more than the left one does (life in the umimproved lane!). It resists rain somewhat but got damp in a short rain shower so needs a backup for mountain weather. This would be a PERFECT mountain jacket with even a wool lining instead of fabric. There are plenty of thinner Merino blend fabrics now that are great for year-round use. Overall would buy again but they will probably be out of stock :-/

I have owned number of Schaffer jackets, and this has been the most functional and useful all around. Like the cut (good arm movement), material is very durable, and its feels broken in from the moment I got it out. Also, the zipper and snaps are genius..snaps alone don't as good a job as a zipper does.

I have always been impressed by Schaefers clothing. I went back and forth about this jacket because I have a jean jacket that I have had for years but sometimes is just not enough for early spring in northern Montana. As always the jacket is top notch as far as quality and fit. I’m glad I went with the Dalhart color it hides dirt and doesn’t hold hair. Overall a great purchase.

As is the case with the several other Schaefer products I have purchased, this jacket is very well-made and promises years of service. It is mid weight, not light weight, and I think it would be ideal for temperatures from 45 to 70°. With a fleece vest, I would think one would be reasonably comfortable down to freezing, possibly lower. On the other hand, the jacket would be too heavy for anything much over 65 to 70°. The pockets are super useful.
I have a similar jacket from Filson, but the Schaefer jacket is heavier; equally, if not more sturdy; and better value.
All in all, a great jacket.
