PRODUCT

Schaefer Rangewax® is specifically designed for inclement weather. Unlike common oilskins saturated with oil, much of the oil is taken out and replaced with wax. Water is unable to penetrate it and the noticeable oily feel and smell is displaced. RangeWax® products have been part of our weatherproof collection of garments since 1992.

Fenceline® Canvas is manufactured specifically for Schaefer. It is an 11 oz. cotton canvas which is woven very tighly. The tightness of the weave is commonly known as army duck. In addition, there is a medium hand finish applied to the fabric. This finish gives the garment body and the fabric does feature a DWR (Durable Water Resistent) finish, which is basically a heavy duty Scotchguard applied by machine after the dyeing process.

Schaefer Brushcloth® is specifically designed to handle harsh riding and hunting conditions. Designed in 2003, the heavyweight 15 oz canvas construction is basically thorn proof and lasts much longer than most fabrics on the market. This investment grade 100% cotton fabric is fully breathable, features a weatherproof finish and adapts to a wide array of products including lined and unlined jackets/coats to vests and dungarees.

The Original feature a high rise fit, meaning they sit above the hips. Designed as a riding jean, the high rise can be more comfortable and holds a shirt tuck well. The thighs are a little more fitted than the Classics. The fit is between a Wrangler 13MWZ and 20X Relaxed, according to our customers. The Reserves feature a mid-rise, meaning they sit naturally on the waist. The cut is more fitted than Original in the seat and thigh. We’ve been told by customers the fit is similar to a Cinch, Kimes or Levi’s mid-rise styles. Both styles are boot cut.

SIZING & MEASUREMENTS

Our current production capacity does not allow us to take on custom orders. We do welcome input on missing size requests. Enough requests can encourage us to add a new size to styles within our range.

Yes, we do in some of our style offerings. Our size codes for tall sizes are as follows; 055 (Large Tall), 065 (X-Large Tall), and 075 (2X-Large Tall). If you search these item codes on the search bar on our site, it will pull up all styles offered in that size.

Great question! The general added size difference between Regular and Tall sizes is about 1" in the arm length and body length of the shirt. This goes for all Tall sizes (Large Tall, X-Larg Tall, and 2X-Large Tall)

Wrap a tape measure evenly around the fullest part under your arms or measure your favorite coat.  Lay your coat completely zipped/snapped up, then spread and flatten out.  Measure across the front of the coat 1” below the armhole seam. This measurement will then need to be doubled.  For example a measurement of 22” is actually a 44” chest of your favorite coat.

Wrap a tape measure around your natural waistline, where you prefer the waist of your pants to hit. Place measuing tape flat and close to skin for best accuracy.

Best taken from your favorite pair of pants, with your target length.  Measure along the pant inseam from the crotch seam to the edge of bottom hem.

From the center back of your neck with your arm slightly bent, follow the tape measure down to the outside of your wrist bone or measure your favorite coat or shirt. Lay your favorite shirt or coat (buttoned/zipped up) face down on a flat surface. Make sure garment is completely flattened out. Measure from the center back point where the collar stand joins the back yoke to the end of the cuff.

Wrap a tape measure around the base of your neck allowing room for comfort or measure  the collar of your favorite shirt. Make sure the collar  is completely flattened/straightened out prior to measuring.

Measure around the knuckles with hand flat, thumb excluded, for normal size. Those at the lower end of a size who want a closer fit, order one size smaller. Those at the upper end of a size who want a looser fit, order one size larger.

Schaefer Outfitter is cut to accommodate an active western lifestyle.  Our outerwear is designed to wear layers underneath and features a riding sleeve.  This means when you are actively riding, there is enough sleeve length built into the garment so that your wrist and forearm are not exposed to the elements.  This same approach is also given to shirt sleeve and shirt tail length.  Our vests are a little more fitted to provide a high performance insulative layer or stand-alone piece.

Absolutely, we welcome that and want to ensure you order the correct size the first time around! Please send all available measurements to support@schaeferoutfitter.com. Suggested measurements to send (will vary depending on type of product): Chest size, Sleeve length, Waist size, Inseam, Height, Weight.

PRODUCT CARE

This product cannot be machine washed, dry cleaned, starched or ironed due to the properties inherent within the fabric. Due to the wax, all Rangewax® garments must must sponged down with cold water and then hung in a cool area to naturally dry. Areas of the garment which look to be drying can be reproofed using Schaefer RangeWax® Refinishing Ointment. Hand apply in light layers, and then apply hair dryer heat to set it in. For those who prefer a patina or leathered look will not need to use Refinishing Ointment.

Our wool products must be dry cleaned. However due to the tightness of the weave of the melton wool, the fabric can be wiped down very easily. Wool naturally wants to shrink, and the man-made nylon lining does not.

First, you need to be clear about what type of leather you are dealing with, if your jacket/vest is suede or nubuck you should take it to a specialist cleaner. A leather piece should never be totally immersed in water or placed in a washing machine. Regular conditioning and wiping with a damp cloth will help prevent a build-up of dirt and grease and storing your jacket in dry conditions will prevent mould.  To remove dirt and grease or light staining, use a damp cloth and soapy water.  Blot rather than rub and avoid over-wetting the leather. Dry the leather naturally but do not allow it to remain damp for long.

All of our pant styles look best after being dry cleaned and starched with a crease. If you do not prefer this look, machine wash cold and dry low to best preserve the wash or dye of the pant.

Just like our jeans, all Schaefer shirts look best after being dry cleaned and starched up a bit. If you do not prefer this look, we suggest machine wash cold, dry low or hang dry, and low iron if needed. Our shirts are not wrinkle free, so pull them out of the dryer quickly or low iron to remove wrinkles.

No. Once the dungarees are produced, they are sent to the wash to eliminate any shrinkage in the garment.
